La plage horaire’s Dark matter #6 (Matière noire #6)

What you will see and hear is in part the result of artistic research by Estelle Kieffer and Christophe Ladret since they began their stay in the Big Shed studio on July 14, 2024.

When out walking in the area, certain aspects of the surrounding landscapes particularly struck them: the frequent and rapid changes in light, the sudden appearances of cloud shadows on the mountain slopes, and the way that the views change completely because of the movement of clouds and mist.

They have looked again at some old questions.  What does discovering a landscape mean? How does one become acquainted with an area? How do we observe what surrounds us? What place do we give to our sensitive perceptions during this discovery?

They felt that experimenting once again with the anthotype process, to which Scottish scientist Mary Somerville’s research contributed,   and projecting ephemeral images along with sound improvisation, seemed an entirely appropriate way to address all these questions.

This artistic approach seeks to integrate with everything present around The Big Shed: spaces, skills, productions and services. The environmental impact is taken into account: the works created use recycled, recyclable, reusable, or bio-sourced materials, and some works are ephemeral.

Every day, around 8 pm, a 35 minute performance entitled « Splash », consisting of shadows and improvised sounds will be presented. A shorter version will be available to visitors during opening hours. The artists will be on hand to answer questions and interact with visitors, allowing them to participate in those works that require their contribution.

The Big Shêd is family-friendly and accommodates individuals who have mobility issues.

Depuis 2012, La plage horaire met en œuvre un dispositif d’exposition collective Matière Noire qui prend la forme d’une série. Pour le cinquième épisode, ce sont les lectures d’ Exercices d’observations (2022) de Nicolas Nova et d’Apprendre à regarder (2021) d’Estelle Zhong Mengal qui s’insinuent dans le scénario. Ainsi, les artistes Estelle Kieffer et Christophe Ladret ont observé avec délicatesse, ont recueilli avec soin, ont donné de la place à ce qui advient, ont écouté la richesse du dérisoire, ont offert leur attention à l’inframince. Les pièces visuelles et sonores sont le fruit d’un tissage d’observations, de collectes et d’expériences passées et vécues dans les ateliers AU46 depuis février 2023. Contemplations ludiques, observations fugaces ou minutieuses, rébus fortuits constituent les fils de cette étoffe vivante que le public continuera de tisser par sa présence.
